IPM
for Schools: A How-to Manual by Sheila Daar,
Tanya Drlik, Helga Olkowski and William Olkowski was written
for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1997.
Our School Manual set the tone and content for the developing
School IPM movement in the U.S. The manual was based on BIRC
hands-on experience with school IPM implementation in California
and Oregon in the 1980s and 1990s and was an important resource
for the Healthy Schools Act of 2000.
The material has been used as a source for School IPM websites,
and has been borrowed extensively for everything from fact
sheets to legislation.
We want to make sure that this valuable resource stays available
for public use.

The School Manual publication is more than 250 pages and each
order comes with a free copy of the IPM Practitioner’s
2012 Directory of Least-Toxic Pest Control Products, which
is a 52-page publication. Cost for both publications is $50
including mailing and handling. California residents add $3.94
tax.
BIRC is a non-profit organization that relies extensively
on public support. If you would like to make a tax-deductible
donation to help us with our work, become a BIRC member, or
order a hard copy of the school manual, click here.
